Lately, I've been getting fandoms that I was in way back when. Some are painfully bad, like to the point where I questioned my past self's taste because, no. But there are others that make me smile even if they aren't at the level of brilliance that I remember. My parents have been sighing every time they see me watching all my old shows. But whatever.

I've noticed that a lot of my shows have really long battles (DBZ, anyone?). I want to see if recent shows are like this or if it was just part of the '90s. To do that I would actually have to watch some new shows. Any recommendations?

So in between watching Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z etc. I've been reading a lot of Supernatural fanfic. Which is a bit of a problem considering that I haven't watched the second half of Season Five. It got me thinking about how for some shows/books/films/whatever there's such a plethora of fanworks, and for others there's virtually nothing. Why is that?

Moving on to something else, I haven't forgotten about my book list. I've written mini reviews for the books that I've finished and my current thoughts on the ones that I'm in the process of reading. There are mild spoilers, but nothing big. I don't give away the ending or anything.

Book List 2010 )

Does anyone know if Bleach still worth reading? I haven't read it in a year or so, and I'm getting the itch to start reading again. What about Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, is that still good?

I get to finally catch up on my reading. As a literature major I do read a lot of books during the semester and they're great books, but required reading isn't the same as choosing. During the semester, I had been buying books that were recommended and books that looked interesting. That results in a lot of books. My goal this summer is to read all of the books that I bought.

Book List for Summer '10

1.) Rampant by Diana Peterfreund

2.) Lieutenant Nun by Catalina de Erauso

3.) American Queer: Now and Then by David Shneer and Caryn Aviv

4.) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

5.) Lady Oracle by Margaret Atwood

6.) East of Eden by John Steinbeck

7.) An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

8.) By the Light of My Father's Smile by Alice Walker

9.) Feed by Mira Grant

10.)Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Barnes

11.) Slam Dunk by Inoue Takehiko (Vols. 1-9)

I think there's more, but my father has hidden them away. If there are any books that you adore and want to rec me, let me know!

I'm going to go back to reading Rampant

Amazon Fail

Seriously, Amazon? What is the point of tracking a package if you don't even say where it is? I have no clue where my book is, for all I know it could be five minutes away or a day away.

Itchy

Yesterday, the Cardiology department put a Holter Monitor on me for twenty-four hours. Let me tell you, those twenty four hours were spent scratching near the pads. The day felt so long!

Now that they're off, you would think that they would stop itching. Not the case. I almost broke the skin a few hours ago from scratching too much.

Underneath the cut there's a picture of the imprint of three of the five electrodes they put on me. It should be SFW, unless the beginnings of cleavage is too much for work.
Pic Ahoy! )

On Tuesday

So on Tuesday, I went to the emergency room. I felt like I couldn't breathe. At first I thought it was an asthma attack, but after I used my inhaler it just got worse. I was worried that I was going to die. After a few hours there, the doctor finally arrived and he told me that it was an anxiety attack.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Wednesday. We're going to figure out a plan for me. It wasn't just a one time thing. I've only recently been able to sleep at night, with my dad. Yesterday, I kept crying because my mother took away my medicine, Ativan.

I have so much to do for Monday and Tuesday and I just want to get better.

Holy Crap!

Elijah Wood is 29 today (it's still the 28th here).

I almost had a heart attack when I found out today. I kept thinking that he was, like, 25 or something. Time just flies by.

Wow. Happy Birthday, man.

Note to self: Do not walk around the house when the lights are off and there are heavy boxes on the floor.

I think my icon speaks for itself.

Also, I want a new moodtheme. But I can't find anything, plus I'm too lazy to upload anything.

Name Change

I changed my lj username. I was getting bored with the old one and wanting to change it for a few weeks now. I figured why not spend some of my christmas money?

So, I am no longer delilah_den, but [livejournal.com profile] leavesagainst. Took that from Sue MacLeod's poem.

Now I have to go take an online quiz.

There are still about five hours left for me, but I wanted to say Happy New Year now before I forget.

2009 has been an okay year for me. Nothing really bad has happened, but nothing really good has happened either.

Here's hoping that 2010 is better!
delilah_den: (Atobe Christmas)
I love my parents so much. I told them not to buy me anything but they just didn't listen to me, which is a little frustrating, but whatever. I'm happy.

I got: a pretty silver bracelet, a portable external drive, a cassette adapter and, like, four books.

So, yeah. Yay, Christmas!

So Slow

Because I am slow, I'm only now getting around to catching up on my flist. What do I find out, days after everyone else?

Oofuri is getting a second season!

How awesome is that?

School is over!

So happy and so tired!

Until January 4th or something like that!

Note to self: before deleting something make sure you've actually backed it up so that when you want to see it again, you don't have to spend hours looking for links.

Screw it, maybe I should just buy the DVDs.

New Layout

I got a new layout. The one I was using, well it's my own fault for not uploading it to my own account, but it basically stopped working.

But! This new one is awesome. I love it so much.
delilah_den: (Ishida Uryuu)
After, like, four years I've finally changed my profile. It's so pretty. *stares*

Oh, the presentation went great. I don't remember much of it, but whatever, the professor said I did a good job. He also gave us back our midterms. Guess who got a 94/100? Yes, me! Considering I didn't even know what I was writing in the last essay, I think that's a pretty good grade.

Why, yes, Ishida, I do feel like a pimp.

Icon meme time. Just so you know, these include icons that aren't currently in use.

So many Fandoms )

Powerpoint presentation tomorrow. SAVE ME.
delilah_den: (Books)
Okay, so in my English class everyone had to sign up to write and present a position paper. I signed up to write about Jimmy Santiago Baca's book. I didn't know that it was a poetry book.

I suck at analyzing poetry*. I'm going to write about what I barely know anything about and I'm going to have to direct discussion.

Why did I have to choose poetry?

*I do like some poems, such as Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum est, but I usually focus on novels when I'm analyzing something.

Yesterday was the official celebration day. We had an awesome barbecue, and most of the family came.

E and B came too. They've known my mom for 24 years so it was nice that they could come.

Also, guess who got a MacBook Pro? ME! It's so shiny and pretty; I love it. ♥

And now, back to reading Derrida.

Birthday!

I am now 21. Yay!

Went to see Wicked with my dad today, it was awesome!
delilah_den: (Woman)
I'm going with my dad on Tuesday to see the Wicked for my birthday. So I bought this cute, black dress yesterday for it. When I put it on though, I realized I have huge breasts. Seriously. I mean, I knew I had breasts but I didn't know that they were that big. I can't stop staring. I'm going to have to wear a tank top underneath so that they aren't so visible.

Oh, I guess I should note that school started on August 26th! School's been okay. Theory is kind of interesting, even though I don't really get it. My sociology class, though, seems like it'll be easy but boring.

Schedule:

MW English 401 Intro-Modern Critical Theory
TTH English 482 Studies in American Literature (Focus on Mexican-American)
TH Sociology 375 Classical Sociological Theory
