I get to finally catch up on my reading. As a literature major I do read a lot of books during the semester and they're great books, but required reading isn't the same as choosing. During the semester, I had been buying books that were recommended and books that looked interesting. That results in a lot of books. My goal this summer is to read all of the books that I bought.

Book List for Summer '10

1.) Rampant by Diana Peterfreund

2.) Lieutenant Nun by Catalina de Erauso

3.) American Queer: Now and Then by David Shneer and Caryn Aviv

4.) Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

5.) Lady Oracle by Margaret Atwood

6.) East of Eden by John Steinbeck

7.) An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

8.) By the Light of My Father's Smile by Alice Walker

9.) Feed by Mira Grant

10.)Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Barnes

11.) Slam Dunk by Inoue Takehiko (Vols. 1-9)

I think there's more, but my father has hidden them away. If there are any books that you adore and want to rec me, let me know!

I'm going to go back to reading Rampant

Amazon Fail

Seriously, Amazon? What is the point of tracking a package if you don't even say where it is? I have no clue where my book is, for all I know it could be five minutes away or a day away.

Itchy

Yesterday, the Cardiology department put a Holter Monitor on me for twenty-four hours. Let me tell you, those twenty four hours were spent scratching near the pads. The day felt so long!

Now that they're off, you would think that they would stop itching. Not the case. I almost broke the skin a few hours ago from scratching too much.

Underneath the cut there's a picture of the imprint of three of the five electrodes they put on me. It should be SFW, unless the beginnings of cleavage is too much for work.
Pic Ahoy! )

On Tuesday

So on Tuesday, I went to the emergency room. I felt like I couldn't breathe. At first I thought it was an asthma attack, but after I used my inhaler it just got worse. I was worried that I was going to die. After a few hours there, the doctor finally arrived and he told me that it was an anxiety attack.

I have an appointment with my doctor on Wednesday. We're going to figure out a plan for me. It wasn't just a one time thing. I've only recently been able to sleep at night, with my dad. Yesterday, I kept crying because my mother took away my medicine, Ativan.

I have so much to do for Monday and Tuesday and I just want to get better.

Note to self: Do not walk around the house when the lights are off and there are heavy boxes on the floor.

I think my icon speaks for itself.

Also, I want a new moodtheme. But I can't find anything, plus I'm too lazy to upload anything.

Name Change

I changed my lj username. I was getting bored with the old one and wanting to change it for a few weeks now. I figured why not spend some of my christmas money?

So, I am no longer delilah_den, but [livejournal.com profile] leavesagainst. Took that from Sue MacLeod's poem.

Now I have to go take an online quiz.

There are still about five hours left for me, but I wanted to say Happy New Year now before I forget.

2009 has been an okay year for me. Nothing really bad has happened, but nothing really good has happened either.

Here's hoping that 2010 is better!
delilah_den: (Atobe Christmas)
I love my parents so much. I told them not to buy me anything but they just didn't listen to me, which is a little frustrating, but whatever. I'm happy.

I got: a pretty silver bracelet, a portable external drive, a cassette adapter and, like, four books.

So, yeah. Yay, Christmas!

Done

School is over!

So happy and so tired!

Until January 4th or something like that!
delilah_den: (Ishida Uryuu)
After, like, four years I've finally changed my profile. It's so pretty. *stares*

Oh, the presentation went great. I don't remember much of it, but whatever, the professor said I did a good job. He also gave us back our midterms. Guess who got a 94/100? Yes, me! Considering I didn't even know what I was writing in the last essay, I think that's a pretty good grade.

Why, yes, Ishida, I do feel like a pimp.
delilah_den: (Books)
Okay, so in my English class everyone had to sign up to write and present a position paper. I signed up to write about Jimmy Santiago Baca's book. I didn't know that it was a poetry book.

I suck at analyzing poetry*. I'm going to write about what I barely know anything about and I'm going to have to direct discussion.

Why did I have to choose poetry?

*I do like some poems, such as Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum est, but I usually focus on novels when I'm analyzing something.

Yesterday was the official celebration day. We had an awesome barbecue, and most of the family came.

E and B came too. They've known my mom for 24 years so it was nice that they could come.

Also, guess who got a MacBook Pro? ME! It's so shiny and pretty; I love it. ♥

And now, back to reading Derrida.

Birthday!

I am now 21. Yay!

Went to see Wicked with my dad today, it was awesome!
delilah_den: (Woman)
I'm going with my dad on Tuesday to see the Wicked for my birthday. So I bought this cute, black dress yesterday for it. When I put it on though, I realized I have huge breasts. Seriously. I mean, I knew I had breasts but I didn't know that they were that big. I can't stop staring. I'm going to have to wear a tank top underneath so that they aren't so visible.

Oh, I guess I should note that school started on August 26th! School's been okay. Theory is kind of interesting, even though I don't really get it. My sociology class, though, seems like it'll be easy but boring.

Schedule:

MW English 401 Intro-Modern Critical Theory
TTH English 482 Studies in American Literature (Focus on Mexican-American)
TH Sociology 375 Classical Sociological Theory

It is 3:45 in the morning, right now. And I am awake; why you ask? Let me tell you why: I am a slacker. For about a month I've been thinking about the deadline for my Political Science class. The deadline for turning in twenty-six video summaries and a four-page essay. Noon on Thursday, July 24. I later noticed that Thursday is the 23rd. He must have made a typo is what I thought, after all, 3 and 4 are pretty close together.

Yesterday, I only had one video summary done. Right now I have two done, one started and two-thirds of the essay written. Not bad, I thought to myself, if I keep working until the sun comes up I'll have the essay finished and maybe some more summaries done. I might get a decent amount of summaries written, but only if I don't sleep at all.

I have been fretting all night about not finishing. While thinking about the title for my essay, I flipped through the syllabus. I stopped at the date for the deadline and read it. Then I read it again.

Apparently, I've been reading it wrong this whole time. It was Friday, July 24. In other words, not Thursday. In other words, I have been up with a migraine freaking out about only having a few more hours to finish everything for nothing. I have a whole day left. Instead of being happy about that (and a tiny part of me is), I'm pissed.

The worst part is, I'm an English major. My whole job as a student is reading and analyzing. I suck and I'm going to bed.

Grades

delilah_den: (Animorphs Quotes-Numbers)
Okay, so apparently I forgot to post about my grades when I got them. *headdesk*

So I'm doing it now, more than a month later. *headdesk again*

American Multicultural Studies 210: A-
English 301: A-
English 448: B

I also made the Dean's List *belated yay!*

-In other news, I'm holding off a bit on seeing Harry Potter (I usually go the day it comes out). I might go on Saturday. If I'm not too busy with Star Trek.

Now I have to get back to reading for the test tomorrow.
delilah_den: (Typewriter)
It's still the fourth here! Right now, I'm watching 1776. Oh, 1776, how I love thee.

So...yes. Happy Independence Day!
delilah_den: (Ichihara Yuuko)
I can't believe it. I'm watching the news right now. He's always been a constant, and now he's dead.

May he rest in peace.

Hair

delilah_den: (Saitou Takumi)
Dude, my hair looks awesome. It's not honey blond like I wanted, but I suspect we would have had to bleach it for it to get that light. Bleach is probably not the healthiest thing for my hair. So instead it is brown with blond highlights. It is pretty and summery.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics due to not knowing where my camera or the cord thingies are. I am lame.

Now I'm off to have breakfast. Mmm, cereal.

Salon

Going to the salon today. Hopefully it won't be a disaster since I'm trying to go from black to honey blonde.

I must confess: I'm nervous even though it's just hair.
